We try to keep it as up to date as possible, particularly regarding second-hand stock & changes to ammunition prices.

This catalogue does not try to cover our huge stock of spare parts – as this would be very difficult, we cover Shotguns, Rifles, & Air Rifles. We also keep a good stock of mid-priced Fishing Tackle, with a particular emphasis on sea tackle. We sell bank permits for Loch Wester and River, South of Keiss on the East Coast of the county. It is particularly good for sea trout. We now sell bank permits for the Dunnet Head Lochs, which can be fished every day except Sunday.

C.H. Haygarth & Son were established in 1957 by Colin Haygarth & his late wife Rosemary, & we have been at our present address since 1964. We are the largest gun dealers in the Highland Region, & the largest, best-equipped gun repair facility in Scotland. We have a very well equipped machine shop & do all our milling, turning & boring in-house. We have built Boxlock, Sidelock and Hammer-action shotguns in-house & still produce high quality, hand-built stalking rifles on the premises.

We are agents for all manufacturers & will be pleased to provide a competitive quotation for any make of shotgun, rifle or air rifle. We are usually happy to take your existing gun/s in part-exchange, & give top allowances for the right items. Indeed we endeavour to match or beat any competitors trade-in allowance.

We will also quote for bulk prices on clay pigeons, by the pallet, shotgun cartridges and .22 target ammunition.

We export to all parts of the world, particularly North America &  offer a complete export package for overseas customers.

With the changes in legislation since Dunblane it is now more complicated to sell guns by mail order, & many customers now choose to visit us personally. This, of course, gives you the opportunity to view our stock “in the flesh.” There is a map on the back cover - finding us is very easy.

We are on the main A836 Thurso - John O’Groats road,

Only 12 miles west of ‘Groats, 3 miles west of The Castle Of Mey. By road we are approximately 4 hours from Perth/Aberdeen, 5 hours from Glasgow /Edinburgh, & 2 hours from Inverness.

We are 2.5 hours from Inverness Airport & 20 mins from Wick Airport. Local accommodation can be found at The Northern Sands Hotel, just a few yards down the road from us, also on the A836. We have recently re-introduced our popular “THE WIDGEON” game cartridge, after an absence of 10 years.

The Widgeon is the classic British game load of 32g 4, 5 & 6 in a 67mm/2.5” red plastic case, with an 8mm head & a six-point crimp.

They are packed in boxes of 25, in outers of 250.

The Widgeon is designed for lightweight 2.5” chambered British game guns, & is a premium quality cartridge, using best quality components from Nobel, Fiocchi, Martignoni & Guilandi etc. 

Other loads/shot sizes can be produced to customers order; minimum run 5000 rnds 

NOTICE TO DEALERS

The company can offer trade terms to Bona Fide dealers, who hold a current RFD, on most used guns in stock. We wholesale shotgun spares for both British & Imported guns &  carry many useful action & ejector parts for Antonio Zoli Model 74 + 78 o/u’s.             

(We were the original importers of these guns in 1978).

Also Spanish made sidelocks + boxlocks, action & ejector parts. (We were the original Gorosable importers in 1974).

Also used parts for Mauser 96 & 98 actions (military & commercial), Lee- Enfield No 4, SMLE, P14 & 17, Mannlicher – Schoenauer, Steyr- Mannlicher(Dutch), BSA CF2, (some new parts), Majestic, Hunter & Monarch.

We produce lists for the trade of British forgings & Zoli parts stocked.
